This week JATNQ takes a look at the British Jazz scene. Every so often, British jazz pops its head above the parapet and today the UK is home to a diverse, collaborative and newly confident jazz scene. For many, jazz has seemed like something other people listened to. In the UK, a new jazz movement has evolved reaching a far younger, and more diverse audience.
The new crop of jazz musicians are in their 20s and early 30s, come from diverse backgrounds and have created their own community outside of major labels and concert halls. Their music, pulls from other genres, like hip-hop, neo-soul, or from African and Caribbean sounds.
The British jazz explosion is not just totally centered around London either, it’s spread right across the length and breadth of the UK.
