Jazz At The Northern Quarter Vol 29 – (Prestige Records)

Jazz At The Northern Quarter returns to the airwaves at the usual time of 10.00 pm each and every Tuesday, for an hour of the very best in Jazz. From Contemporary to Bebop, Modern to Avante Garde, Smooth to Fusion and anything else that falls within the Jazz family.

This week we take a look at the Prestige Record label. The label founded in 1949 by Bob Weinstock, recorded hundreds of albums by many of the leading jazz musicians of the day, and was initially was called New Jazz but changed it’s name 12 months later to Prestige. It eventually was sold to Fantasy in 1971, and then later absorbed in to the Concord Music Group. Featured artists include, Boogaloo Joe Jones, Gene Ammons, Kenny Burrell, Leon Spencer Jr, Miles Davis Quintet and much more.
