Mike presents Jazz At The Northern Quarter,
Also A Living Tradition.

An hour of the very best in Jazz, and an hour of music from the Celtic nations, to the rich folk music heritage of England.

Mike’s Bio:

My first encounter with Jazz was in 1967 at the tender age of 16, up until that time my music taste was purely Soul Music. John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme started it off. I then went on journey of discovery, Miles Davis, Wes Mongomery, Ornette Coleman, Kenny Burrell the list goes on. An introduction to Jazz from across the Atlantic, also lead me to the British and European Jazz scene.

Always had love of mainly Irish Traditional/Folk music, which eventually led to Scottish, English and the wider Celtic music community. Lived in Scotland and Ireland for a good few years and got a real feel for the music, the jigs, reels and airs. Folk songs always have a story to tell, whether it be social issues, the love of the land, the sea, immigration or a love lost.
